Endodontic barbed broaches are a useful dental instrument that removes pulp during a root canal treatment. The round wires are notched with barbs creating the ideal texture for working through the procedure. As a leader in endodontics, Dentsply Sirona offers high quality products and solutions to streamline dental practices and increase safety and efficiency.

Barbed broach is an instrument manufactured from round wires, and the smooth surface is notched to form barbs. The barbed broach is an extirpating, not an enlarging instrument. ‘Barbs’ on the broach snag the pulp to facilitate removal. The barbed broach must only be used in the straight part of the canal and insertion of the broach should not exceed 2/3rd the length of the canal.

A broach must not engage the canal walls as it is advanced, or the pressure on the barbs will flatten them against the shaft; as the instrument is withdrawn, the barbs will then embed themselves in the walls, making it difficult or impossible to remove the broach. Because the barbs are "nicked" out of the shaft this is an extremely fragile instrument and will break easily if misused. It must fit loosely.

Indications:

  • Used to remove pulp tissue during endodontic(root canal) treatment.
  • They are also used to loosen debris in a necrotic canal or to remove paper points or cotton pellets.

Features:

  • Remove soft tissue from the canal.
  • Designed to cut tissue when pulled from the canal.
  • Color-coded handles.
  • The barbed broach is formed from a tapered round shaft by lifting up portions of metal of the shaft almost at a right angle to the shaft.
  • These elevated barbs will engage the pulp tissue and remove it from the canal.
